The Biorepository
MML significantly contributed to the establishment of a state-of-the-art H3Africa Biorepository at Makerere University. There are only three such facilities on the African continent. To support the biorepository, MML acquired funds from PANACEA, an EDCTP funded project, and constructed a shell structure which was a requirement for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the USA to award Makerere University a grant to establish a Biorepository, and to support its activities. It should be noted that NIH does not support infrastructure and it expects hosting institutions e.g. Makerere to meet the costs for shell constructions. The shell structure was constructed by Stone Construction Ltd. The H3Africa biorepository in Uganda is housed in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory of the Dept. of Immunology & Molecular Biology, Makerere University.
